Re: Snap & Flatpak Proprietary Software Should Be Isolated in Debian.
Well I think it fits in with the spirit of what contrib tries to do. It removes the need of Debian or the user to have to try and check every upstream build an impossible task anyway and keeps main pure. If you install something that undermines dpkg and breaks your system you get to keep the halves....

"python and perl and lua are free Libre open source software aren't they. Nobody is saying they have to go in non-free. All of them could be written as scripts or to fetch and install either free or non-free software. That script or software is the determining factor. That's what defines which...

No one gives a crap if you or anyone else, Knowingly wants to install non-free slaveware on your own system. What's happening is the very opposite. Non-free slaveware unknowingly being installed on a free only system. What we're talking about here is installers in installers. How do we make sure eve...

A clue? http://www.fluxbox.org/help/man-fluxbox-keys.php KEYS You may specify a key by its key name (for example, a or space) or by its numeric keycode (for example, 38 or 0xf3). edit: I was clueless about the "stamp" bit Then saw the Print button in the header. On my laptop the print key ...

Re: Snap & Flatpak Proprietary Software Should Be Isolated in Debian.
"You can't expect everyone to just use repositories." Where do you think flatpak's and snaps are stored? "Ubuntu destroyed that concept with ppa's." AUR seems to be working quite well. "Now you want to make it harder for people to get the software they want / need because o...

Re: Snap & Flatpak Proprietary Software Should Be Isolated in Debian.
That's OK. As I said the container being free is irrelevant. It's what's in it and how the user can access that information to allow them to make their choices that's important.. Debian is already the application police. For dpkg. They have strict rules and guidelines for building packages. Hence th...

Re: Snap & Flatpak Proprietary Software Should Be Isolated in Debian.
Just because the container is floss it does not mean the things in the container are. Look at dpkg. You get main, contrib and non-free. The difference is Debian tells you what's in the dpkg and which category it's from. They check the source for you. Look at "wine" it's free software but i...
