Me too but sometimes I forget.

I always do a "dry run" before backing up with grsync. More than once, I had plugged in the drive but forgotten to mount it so in the dry run, new folders were created to receive the data. After mounting the drive, everything worked normally.

If you are not locked into the Debian installer, you might want to look at refractasnapshot and refractainstaller

I NEVER sign in to chromium. Why would anyone want to do that is beyond me. Ah yes . . . the fallacy of "it's so convenient" perhaps? But at what cost . . . I suspect that sign in is one of the hooks that chromium intentionally disables. Though I do see it in my chromium; just never tried ...
