Debian 11 RC, system.map is missing

#1 Post by Username123 »

Hello everyone,

The forum search and other methods weren't helpful and didn't give me any information on the subject, so here I am...

System.map-5.10.0-7-amd64 file has the following content:

Code: Select all

ffffffffffffffff B The real System.map is in the linux-image-<version>-dbg package
My question is - whether this change is permanent and will be in the final release as well, or it's a temporary thing?
If the former, then what's the reasoning behind that change?

Thanks!

System-map-<version> is a file in /boot, not a package. It used to be included in linux-image-<version> binary packages.
According to the linux package changelog, the change happened since kernel version 5.8, so I guess it is going to be permanent.
* Move System.map into debug package and replace with pointer.
I don't know what is the rationale for this change
