My preferred Desktop Environment is LXDE. The lxpanel is great, but it is missing a "NetSpeed" plugin that is available in gnome-panel, mate-panel and xfce4-panel as "xfce4-netload-plugin". Is it possible to modify/reprogram an existing applet/plugin to be used with lxpanel? Here are some existing projects for xfce4, mate and gnome panels:
https://github.com/search?q=xfce4-netload-plugin
https://github.com/search?q=mate-netspeed
https://github.com/search?q=gnome-netspeed
I was told that lxpanel is GTK2 and mate-panel is GTK3, however GTK2 and GTK3 can be used in the same system without problems. What I am trying to achieve is to display real time download speed inside lxpanel. It has to be a plugin available to add to lxpanel when clicked "Add / Remove Panel Items" button, then "+ Add" button. Any advice or suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
