[Solved] Unwanted ads

#1 Post by zguindavo »

Hi,

For the very first time in many years of happily using Debian, I have had today some ads appearing in my Gnome desktop notifications. I don't remember having install anything in particular that could the source of these ads, and I couldn't find where they come from... In particular, I didn't manage to found a log file for Gnome notifications. Anyone has an idea on how I could find the source/reason of these ads in order to remove them ?

Cheers !

Never heard of that happening. Did you install any extensions?
Image Stable / Asus VivoBook X421DA / AMD Ryzen 7 3700U / Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx (Picasso) / 8 GB RAM / 512GB NVMe

Could be notifications that you have (inadvertently) enabled from some website.

Have a look at your Notifications permissions in your browser, eg for Firefox they are in the Privacy & Security settings.

Thanks for your quick answers!

@canci: No I didn't as far as I can tell

@h0wefield: Nice advice, I detected one site that was authorized I don't know why (but probably my fault, guess I clicked too quickly on something), turned it off, I hope that was the guilty one!
