Quakespasm doesn't work in debian

Well i copied the id1 hipnotic and rogue files but it doesn't work. It says there's no command as quakespasm.

To execute a file in the current directory, you need to prepend './' without the quotes.
So

./quakespasm
OR
./quakespasm-sdl2

Have you copied it into the basedir that's listed in the error messages?
