No window decorations on firefox
No window decorations on firefox
I recently updated firefox to the latest version (firefox-esr) and now it doesn't have any window decorations.
Window manager is Fluxbox. No other application is having this problem.
Restarting Fluxbox restores the decorations to the window, but this not a good solution, as every time firefox creates a new window, including save dialogs, etc, all of them are missing window decorations.

Re: No window decorations on firefox
Could you check if the titlebar is enabled?
Go to:
Hamburger Menu (i.e. the 3 lines in the top right) - More Tools - Customize toolbar... - See if "Titlebar" is checked in the bottom left.

Re: No window decorations on firefox
And does disabling it change anything?

Re: No window decorations on firefox
When I disable it, it adds minimize, maximize, and close icons to the upper right corner of the window, but it doesn't add fluxbox decorations or allow window resize or move.

Re: No window decorations on firefox
I think that might be a limitation of Fluxbox in terms of proper support of client-side decorated windows (like Firefox or Gnome programmes). Maybe you could have a look in Fluxbox' bug tracker, either at bugs.debian.org or the upstream bug tracker.

Re: No window decorations on firefox
Dang! Thank you. The only option is for me to use a different window manager then? Or downgrade firefox?

Re: No window decorations on firefox
Or ask the Fluxbox people if there's a workaround?

Re: No window decorations on firefox
had the same problem found this as a solution:
You can assign a key to run ToggleDecor. IE in: ~/.fluxbox/keys:
Mod1 t :ToggleDecor
It's described in man fluxbox-keys
ToggleDecor
Toggles the presence of the window decorations (title bar,
window buttons, and resize bar).

Plz mark as solved if this solves your problem too.
-Thanks

Re: No window decorations on firefox
That sounds great @themanjay .
Maybe Fluxbox can also permanently store this setting somewhere so you don't have to press the button every time?

Re: No window decorations on firefox
In the FF settings under Extensions and Themes > Themes, there is an option to use the System Theme. Toggle that option and see if that makes a difference.
Re: No window decorations on firefox
@themanjay Thank you for the help. I would prefer to not have to toggle a button each time, I'm basically already doing that with restarting fluxbox.
@ak_scout Thank you! This seems to have fixed the issue as far as I can tell!

Re: No window decorations on firefox
Unfortunately I spoke too soon. I enabled the system theme but I'm still having the same issue.
Re: No window decorations on firefox
Any fix for this? This is extremely annoying. I have been using fluxbox + firefox for over 15 years without issue, one of the reasons I like Linux so much is not having to constantly switch to different software depending on what's trendy. No other x.org application I'm using seems to have this problem, it's just firefox.

Re: No window decorations on firefox
Not sure what you expect to happen here. It seems like it's either a Firefox or Fluxbox issue. Report a bug with any of the two projects. I don't think anyone will magically have a solution here, as it doesn't seem to be settings related.

Re: No window decorations on firefox
For investigation :
gtk3-nocsd : Disable Gtk+ 3 client side decorations
gtk3-nocsd : Disable Gtk+ 3 client side decorations
Re: No window decorations on firefox
The issue seems to be that firefox-esr moved to "client side window decoration" is that correct?
Is there some way to disable that?
Re: No window decorations on firefox
Aha! Thank you, let me try this.
I installed this package, let me see if firefox still has this problem.

Re: No window decorations on firefox
Fifteen years of good memories down the drain just like that.... What a waste.
I'm still with Fluxbox and Firefox-ESR. They remain faithful to me and we've got 17 years together..
Many more than my 3 marriages totaled.
