Hope you all are well, dear friends and leaders.
Earlier djvu could be opened and read with add-on with evince or okular program.
Suppose I have this file, The History Of South India

As I understand it, a djvu.xml file describes the structure of the scanned document, therefore it does not contain the actual text, images etc.
The book itself is available from archive.org in various formats.

It opened fine in Konqueror. Is it an option to just convert it to something more common, like pdf?

Thank you for responding, Mr. FreewheelinFrank.
Oh, is it?! I actually don't know the usage of xml in Archive.org.FreewheelinFrank wrote: ↑2022-05-16 08:23 As I understand it, a djvu.xml file describes the structure of the scanned document, therefore it does not contain the actual text, images etc. ...
Yes, yes, quite true, but the OCR quality is quite poor. All lines aren't OCRed. So can't have an optimised and smaller file, or use a TTS program to have the file raed (past tense of Read is also read, but i use this convention for better comprehension) digitally.FreewheelinFrank wrote: ↑2022-05-16 08:23 ... Thanks Mr. Hallvor for posting your comment. Yes, it opens in Okular as well. I don't use Konquerer, but Firefox-ESR. Opens there as well. XML is eXtended Markup Language, but I don't know what kind of file it is intended for, or the protocols or usage.
Given what Mr. Frank says, conversion to pdf won't be of any use.Hallvor wrote: ↑2022-05-16 08:58 ... Is it an option to just convert it to something more common, like pdf?

Re: [?]Which program to use for reading djvu xml book files?
I downloaded the file with wget and converted it to PDF. It did contain text, but the layout was very bad.
Here is the converted PDF I made: https://ufile.io/opfuscto
https://djvu.com/djvu-technology/
I am not having much luck outside Konqueror:
Firefox just opens it like a text file with code, and not in readable format.
Okular just hangs.

Re: [?]Which program to use for reading djvu xml book files?
Thanks Mr. Hallvor for your efforts. You needn't have tried so hard. I downloaded your file from the link. The layout is not only "Very Bad", there is no layout at all, worse than the Text Only file there.Hallvor wrote: ↑2022-05-16 10:53 I downloaded the file with wget and converted it to PDF. I had used djvu tech from 2008 to 2015, but then learnt about the problems. The developer didn't make some portions of the code free to use, virtually killing the tech. djvu files are tighter and smaller than pdf files. But then, gone tech.
Even Chromium reads it too, without parsing, just like the file you printed. But that's about it.
So please let go. You have done enough already. Thank you once again for your kind efforts.
Prima Facie, from the code, it appears that the file has a layout code. But programs aren't parsing them.
Let us wait. May be someone more knowledgeable shall post a positive reply soon.
