iceweasel kde4 integration

#1 Post by haizaar »

Hello, guys!

I'm running Debian unstable on amd64 with KDE4 desktop. I know there exists KDE integration package, that enables iceweasel to use KDE file dialogs. In ubuntu its called kmozillahelper. There was similar packages in Debian (called differently as far as I remember). I happily used it in unstable, but several weeks ago it disappeared for some reason and I can not find it.

Can anyone post some info on iceweasel + KDE integration in Debian?

Thanks,

Oxygen KDE :: Firefox Add-ons https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/59338/

Oxygen-Molecule KDE & GTK+ unified theme KDE-Look.org
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Ox ... ent=103741

http://digitizor.com/2009/09/20/a-compl ... n-kubuntu/
After installing the theme, fix the buttons, scroll bars and other general appearance.

1. Install gtk-qt-engine and kde-config-gtk-style . To do this open the Konole and run this command:
apt-get install gtk-qt-engine kde-config-gtk-style.
2. Open GTK Styles and Fonts from KRunner (Alt+F2 to bring up the KRunner) or from Kickoff -> Computer -> System Settings -> Style -> GTK Styles and Fonts.
3. Under GTK Styles, enable the “Use my KDE style in GTK applications” radio button.
4. Under GTK Fonts, enable the radio button for “Use my KDE fonts in GTK applications“.
5. Under Firefox/Iceweasel and Thunderbird/Icedove, click on the “Install scrollbar fix…” button.
6. Click on “Apply” and “Ok“.

Or use qtcurve.
gtk2-engines-qtcurve - This is a set of widget styles for Gtk2 based apps
kde-style-qtcurve - Unified widget styles for KDE and GTK+
kwin-style-qtcurve - Unified window decoration for KDE and GTK+
qtcurve - Unified window decoration for KDE and GTK+

The next thing you can do is to enable the Qt File Selector. If you want to change to the Qt File Selector, just follow the following steps:

1. Enter “about:config” (without the quotes) in the URL bar. You will get a warning; click on the “I’ll be careful, I promise” button.
2. In the Filter bar, enter “ui.allow_platform_file_picker” (without quotes again).
3. Double click on the entry ui.allow_platform_file_picker to change the value to to false.
4. Now you will get the Qt file selector. If you want the Gtk file selector, just change the value of ui.allow_platform_file_picker back to “true“.

I didn't know about this, thanks.
The part about appearance, I changed it. Looks beautiful. Thanks!

When I restart it'll change to the previous settings, how'd I make this change permanent?

EDIT
I got it, first you must install these packages: kde-config-gtk-style gtk2-engines-qtcurve
Then go to system settings and you'll see the rest, including name of one more package that has to be installed.

Thank you guys for your help. Unfortunately most of the posts talk about appearance, while I talk about making iceweasel use KDE file dialogs.

After all, setting ui.allow_platform_file_picker results in very ugly dialog like this: http://imagebin.org/110645

Uhm, I don't find it ugly at all!

If we leave esthetic aspects aside, Qt file dialog does not have shortcuts on the left (like dolphin and any KDE4 app has). This is a big disadvantage.

The KDE file-picker subject is not about aesthetic, but about functionality.

Or use gtk2-engines-oxygen for all gtk applications: gtk2-engines-oxygen - Debian NEW package overview

available at ubuntu if not yet available in Debian repositories: http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/gtk2-engines-oxygen
