Actually his last post was on the 20th several days ago. So something must have happened around then for him to go away.
May the FORK be with you!

He did post a thread in which he explained his reasons but it has been deleted since — a few of our newer members criticised him repeatedly for posting links to lmsptfy and man pages and he took it to heart and decided to leave

Things change for people. However, if you keep having/allowing SJW snowflakes run the show and make demands then this is the natural result. Qualified people leave and your left with twits holding their knickers up. Debian is but a pale shadow of its former self, and that affliction is spreading to a distro near you.

If you want to keep good moderators and active admins, then the forum must have consistency with everyone on the same page.

The first rule must be to assume the best:
  • Assuming someone is being unreasonable or hard to work with because they are willing to display their frustration is a terrible thing. It is being exclusive instead of inclusive. Such a situation is a time for deep sympathy rather than ridicule. Too many hurt feelings are generated because of short tempers or ego. No one is always right; and that means you and me.

Poor use of the English language is no excuse to ignore or eliminate people.
The second rule is to work hard at understanding what the OP needs. When you don't know, ask in a nice way. When you don't get the answer you want or think you need, then ask in another way. If you care, don't give up. Sometimes multiple choice questions work wonders to clarify the situation.

The third rule is not to use the word troll to label someone. It is difficult to prove because of two reasons; one is that you probably don't understand the definition and two is that you cannot read minds. Wikipedia puts it this way:
In internet slang, a troll is a person who starts flame wars or upsets people on the Internet by posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses and normalizing tangential discussion, either for the troll's amusement or a specific gain.
The fact is that this is rare. Do not give emotional responses. Remember that anyone may interject a good idea into an existing thread, even if only they see it as good. See rule 1.

Following these rules is extremely important but only if the desire is for a vibrant and active forum. Take this from someone who has decades working in the computer industry and who has been on both side of the equation. We either are a part of the problem or a part of the solution. There is no middle ground.

People are willing and able to do so much more in an environment of welcoming and thankful participation.
