What does Rule #8 in the Forum Guidelines Imply?

#1 Post by GPWR »

I was just starting to write my first post on the Debian forums, but decided to stop and double-check the meaning of the eighth point in the forum guidelines, which goes as follows:
As a rule we do not accept commercial content.
Does this mean I'm not allowed to mention a trademark name that offers non-free software in my post? I would like to ask a question on compatibility with a hardware product which comes with non-free drivers designed for Windows, which is a non-free OS. Am I allowed to do that?

Thank you in advance.

I have a feeling this is more about soliciting products etc.
Image Stable / Asus VivoBook X421DA / AMD Ryzen 7 3700U / Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx (Picasso) / 8 GB RAM / 512GB NVMe

Oh, I see. Thank you very much for shedding light on that.
I'm guessing that could be added to the forum guidelines, if possible, since the statement "we do not accept commercial content" is quite vague, in my humble opinion.
Thank you again, and have a nice one.

No advertising. No links to advertising websites. Will it specifically benefit Debian Users? (If it is a general question about Linux it might be better elsewhere.)

This makes it very clear. Thank you so much, and have a great day.
