[Forum] Forum update this weekend: 10/1/2022 - 10/3/2022 | Updates and Upgrades

#1 Post by donald »

Greetings,

Our apologies for todays downtime of 20 minutes, we updated the forum server and then upgraded it to debian 11 bullseye (yay!):

Distributor ID: Debian
Description: Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye)
Release: 11
Codename: bullseye

During the upgrade the connection between the forum software and database was and still is being somewhat uncooperative. We may experience another drop in service during the fix though it is not anticipated. Please give us some of your best patience this evening.

---

This weekend 10/1/2022 - 10/3/2022 we will update the forum software.

Downtime is anticipated to be 10 minutes, that is if the Gremlins do not see this thread. :D

We were able to update the server software, fix an issue with the server software and finally update the forum software.
Incidentally, this also fixed the search function misfiring.

We will leave this thread up for a week, please let us know if you spot any errors or issues.

Thank you all!

Is it just me, or is the forum missing its favicon after the update?

Not seeing it yet. I could be seeing a cached null favicon I suppose?

Not seeing a favicon here either. Tried Ctrl-F5 to refresh. I don't remember the forum ever actually having a favicon tbh.

Oops, I misunderstood where a favicon is supposed to be. Used to be one in URL bar in prehistoric times. I do have it in the browser tab next to the title, and in bookmarks and history, and always have iirc.

I looked for it there the 1st time as well. Uploaded it thought it was wrong, deleted it, checked it again, then re-uploaded it again to ensure I wasn't crazy.

Need to crisp ours up a bit I see.

edit: The above forums one is the new one. The old one was the swirl.

There has been change in my experience since the update. I cannot login unless I clear the cookies now. Without clearing the cookies, the attempt at logging in returns to the login page. This is in firefox-esr/testing 102.3.0esr-1 amd64. It doesn't happen in palemoon though, so may be more a firefox-esr/testing issue a this point.

I think it might be a setting on your side, I run Nightly 107.0a1 (2022-10-07) (64-bit) and this browser always clears the forum cookies and makes me log in every single time after the browser starts anew. I tried white listing it and it wont take. It is a bit annoying but makes some security sense I guess. So something on both our ends. :)

Cookies almost always save my login here with only rare occasional login requests. I use CookieAutoDelete and have for years before FF was able to handle it. Just whitelist in CAD and logged in instantly at page load. FF ESR with native cookie handling not enabled.

I have my own personal gremlin. In Debian infrastructure there is a particular server I shall not name that will not process commands I give it, someone else logs in behind me and does the same? Instant! I log out and back in and it works, I tell people and they think I'm crazy. So this cookie thing is just a normal day.
