[MATE Desktop] How to disable "Recent Documents"

#1 Post by johnsonmt01 »

I'm a fan of the MATE desktop and the classic Applications/Places/System menu, but I don't care for the "Recent Documents" item at the bottom of Places. Here's how I disabled it.

1. Navigate to the hidden folder /home/*USERNAME*/.local/share.

2. Locate the file "recently-used.xbel." This is the file that records data on your recent documents. If you delete it, it'll auto-generate the next time you access a file. You can replace it with a "dummy" version, though.

3. Delete the file. Create a new folder, and name it "recently-used.xbel."

4. "Recent Documents" in your "Places" menu should now be greyed out.
