Help: My Keyboard not working

#1 Post by mewelein »

Hey,

I'm trying to install debian Wheezie on a new laptop and my keyboard don't work anymore past the main screen of the installer (when I select which install I wanna do, graphical, normal or expert)

It's a usb keyboard and it don't need drivers (it works in bios), have you any idea what's wrong and how could I use it please?

My mouse is usb too and works so I tried to do a graphical install but the problem is that I need to type something while creating an account or a password for root so I really need the keyboard to work...

Please help me.
Thanks in advance.

Why are you trying to install Wheezy on a new laptop? It is unsupported for years now and most likely will not work on new hardware. Do yourself a favour and install the current Debian Buster instead.

That does not mean it does not need drivers. The Linux kernel does not use the BIOS and needs to have its own drivers for any supported hardware.

Indeed its old kernel may not support newer hardware. For example if the keyboard is connected to a USB 3 port but the kernel does not support the USB 3 controller, then the keyboard won't work.
