I installed Debian 9 fresh on a had drive. It was booting fine.
I am using 1 hard drive.
I installed Debian 10 in another partition and then used that grub2 to to overate the master boot record.
Debian 10 Grub installation found Debian 9 but won't boot into it.
I will post error soon. I think I have to skip the Grub Installation from Debian 10 and let the initial grub os-probe and find Debian 10.

My standard 2 system on same drive for many years.
Never seen it fail.
Run "update-grub" from a terminal and see what it comes up with.
Last grub install is what controls both.
Perhaps you didn't put grub where you thought you did.
Of course my installations have been 100% sid daily builds so I couldn't possibly have a problem.
