[SOLVED] Testing Installer: No kernel modules were found

#1 Post by bekos »

Hi all,

I have a problem installing the daily Debian Testing netinst ISO from https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/dail ... 64/iso-cd/. So far, I have tried the ISOs of 2021-Jan-09 and 2021-Jan-10. Once the installation boots and I choose my language, I get the following error:

"""
No kernel modules were found. This is probably due to a mismatch between the kernel used by this version of the installer and the version of the kernel version available in the archive.
This should make sure that your installation image is up-to-date, or - if that's the case - try a different mirror, preferably deb.debian.org
"""

I don't even know how to react to this message because it makes no sense to me. I do not understand why the mirror is even mentioned. The installation is not supposed to be checking any mirrors at this point, and it couldn't possibly do it because no firmware has been provided at that point of the installation process. My network adapter needs a firmware to work. To make things even more strange, I installed an older version (2020-Dec) of the same ISO on the same laptop about 3 weeks ago using the exact same procedure, and everything worked just fine.

Shall I assume this is some kind of installer bug? Anybody else has the same problem?
Where can I find older builds of the above ISO image?

Thank you for your time.

PS: Unfortunately, the solution of installing Debian stable and then upgrading to Testing does not work for me because Debian Stable Installer can't see the nvme hardware of my Intel Tiger Lake laptop.

This is not unusual for the testing images (the clue is in the name). Try the alpha image instead: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/bullseye_di_alpha3/

Thanks my friend! The alpha image works!
