xorg short freezes

#1 Post by graemev2 »

FYI. I read http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... er#p715315 ... and will attempt to avoid going there.

Some while ago (months) I noticed "freezes" in my Desktop. I put these down to heavy processing elsewhere, browser issues etc. It became clear overtime that the freezes were real [ just happened as I typed that BTW].
My symptoms match https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/2905 except I'm only on the 4.19.0-16-amd64 kernel . To add to the description :

+ Running glxgears, the gears screen freezes but the stats report a steady 30FPF (albeit only after the freeze ends) playing sounds in the background, the sound continues unaffected . It seems to ONLY be the update of the X display is is frozen. The freeze lasts from 1-2 seconds up to about a minute (rare):

My freezes are generally too short to ssh into the box an check the X server really is unkillable.

My check of various logs revealed no obviously relevant messages . Since it's mostly an irritant I've just been waiting to see it go away in a similar fashion to the way it arrived (presumably in an update some months back) but seeing issues like it in 5.10 kernels I'm starting to worry it may be here for some time.
