Bullseye installation does not work with Realtek RTL8125B

#1 Post by fernandocesarpinto »

I've been trying to install new RC of Bullseye (both standard and non-free). I see that RTL8125B is included on non-free package firmware-realtek, so on normal Debian installation I don't get it even detected.

On the other hand, I tried DebianEdu 11 (that comes with firmware-realtek), and on "Detect network hardware" it starts showing:
missing firmware file: `iwl-debug-yoyo.bin`

It seems like a problem in the installer, but I am new to Debian so not really sure. I proceed without it and can see wireless network SSIDs. I try to connect to my router that has WPA2 password and used the correct keys (tried many times and also triple-checked on other devices) but in the end I get the error:
Failure of key exchange and association
The exchange of keys and association with the access point failed. Please check the WPA/WPA2 parameters you provided.
The machine I am using is too far from the router, so I don't have a practical way to try cabled connection. Any suggestions of what else I could try?

Looking in bug reports it seems that it is kernel bug.

These bugs are mainly related to kernel 5.8 and 5.9. Maybe they did not get fixed an persist on 5.10. Is there something I can do about it? A workaround to install it maybe?

It should be a harmless message, can you check if you have firmware-iwlwifi package installed.
They say something here
https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comment ... _2_debian/
But that is for firmware-iwlwifi package.

If this missing package is not the problem, I still have another problem. Since my Debian can't exchange keys with my WiFi network.

I am also not sure how can I check that on installation wizard.

I could make it work with firmware-iwlwifi from experimental repository (version 20210322-1~exp1), I confirm current version does not work with WPA2 on my adapter.

Can you copy what you get from

Code: Select all

lspci -v
Under Network controller for your wifi, as I am wondering now what kernel module it is using now.
