thinkfan package in Debian Bullseye

#1 Post by cgirerd »

Hello everyone,
I want to install thinkfan on a new installation of Debian 11 (Bullseye). It seems to be in the official repositories as it is listed here: https://packages.debian.org/sid/thinkfan. My system architecture is amd64.

My source.list looks like that:
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main contrib non-free
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye-updates main contrib non-free
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye-proposed-updates main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/debian-security bullseye-security main contrib non-free

However, when I try to install thinkfan (I did apt update before, the entries in my source.list are taken into account), I obtain the following message: E: Unable to locate package thinkfan
Do you know what the problem is with this package? Is it listed as a debian sid package but is somehow... not available?
Best,
Cedric

Do you know the difference between Bullseye and Sid?

Oh that's true, sorry for the confusion... So seems to be available in sid but not in testing... Thanks for the help!

I'd lose the "proposed updates" line in your sources, too. After Bullseye goes stable that is a very good way to bork your system, unless you're a dev and want to test it.

Thank you, I commented this entry in my source.list as advised.
