LXQT 0.17 upgrade on Debian bullseye

#1 Post by jesito »

Hi again!

This time is to ask for the new LXQT 0.17 version that has been released recently.
Under Debian it doesn't install via the usual apt upgrade/update sequence.
Synaptic tells me I run 0.16.

Does anybody know how to upgrade it?.
Thanks in advance.

Jes.

You would need to compile it from source as it is not available in Debian, and possibly it would need newer Qt libs as well so impossible for current Stable Debian.
LXQt is v0.16 in development versions of Debian too atm, so you may just have to wait.

Qt version in bullseye is ok for 0.17 and also coming 1.0.0
Building from source isn't quite difficult, just following the steps https://github.com/lxqt/lxqt/wiki/Building-from-source

It's your system and you can mess it up if you want, but just be aware that building from source may not be that smooth and easy as some may say, and may lead to weird issues when you try and update.

Are there any Ubuntu PPAs or similar from which one can try porting over the newer LXQT? Usually those are a better choice. Note that I wrote port, not install from.

And OP, I think you need to read about Debian releases to see why a new desktop just doesn't appear in apt for you. Debian ≠ rolling release.

Thanks for your answers.
Not able to compile it from source and don't want to mess anything.
I'll have to wait then.
