Inconsistency in Buster repository.
Inconsistency in Buster repository.
Hi there, developer people
I use Armbian (which is Debian + some adaptation board specific) on OrangePi PC+.
Current is Buster.
And there is a logical inconsistency in Debian repositories / software that can be installed (Armbian people told me to write on this forum):
You ship:
- PostgreSQL 11, BUT
- PgAdmin3, which, according to PgAdmin site is compatible only with versions of PostgreSQL up to 9.6.
"We" need PgAdmin4 "packaged & served" .
As it is more complicated than version 3 this may take time.
When one could expect PgAdmin4 included in Debian Buster repositories?
Laurent.

Re: Inconsistency in Buster repository.
You could search for: Debian PgAdmin4
to find how to install it in Debian 10.

Ok, tried this:arochester wrote:You could search for: Debian PgAdmin4

Code: Select all
https://computingforgeeks.com/how-to-install-pgadmin4-on-debian/
got:
Code: Select all
root@orangepipcplus:~# apt install pgadmin4 pgadmin4-apache2
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package pgadmin4 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package 'pgadmin4' has no installation candidate
E: Unable to locate package pgadmin4-apache2

We never directed him to this forum - he is simply making things up (and is spamming our private channels in the mean time with urges to help him since we surely know how ...). Official support stands as follows: support policy while users decides on their own what will they do. Personally, I always send people, that are not satisfied with our supports or its a generic issue we avoid dealing with - armbian forum is small, to hire someone from https://www.debian.org/consultants/ (you can verify this claim)Head_on_a_Stick wrote:Tell them I said to please **** off and not do that again.
Armbian has a great relationship with Debian folks, we are a part of this family and I am just making sure this incident will not jeopardise that.
Have a great day!

Thanks for clearing that up, much appreciated.Igorp wrote:We never directed him to this forum - he is simply making things up
You're a good person Igorp, and better than me. Pay no attention to my grumpy bluster, I can be a right cunt sometimes and anyway I have nothing whatsoever to do with the Debian project. I'm just a regular user.Igorp wrote:Armbian has a great relationship with Debian folks, we are a part of this family and I am just making sure this incident will not jeopardise that.

Oh, don't worry about. I am doing it too, perhaps slightly encodedHead_on_a_Stick wrote:I can be a right cunt sometimes
I mainly tried to emphasise that we are pretty much in the same boat - we help people in best effort manner, but we can't solve all the problems and help everyone.
Re: Inconsistency in Buster repository.
sort of asked that question rude. He did. still if he searched the web with (his pakage name.deb) he would find it in someones ppa. also I find it a good Idea to add ubuntu apt list to my debian. find a lot of stuff like that. did anyone point him to a howto on debing a source package. the faster someone learns that the easier life is around linux. just my two cents.Igorp wrote:Oh, don't worry about. Can someone call 911 for me? My eyes rolled so far back that they got stuck that way, just like Mom always said they would.

Perhaps, the high time to read https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian. An extract from the original article clearly shows why adding PPAs is a very very bad ideahe would find it in someones ppa. also I find it a good Idea to add ubuntu apt list to my debian. find a lot of stuff like that. did anyone point him to a howto on debing a source package. the faster someone learns that the easier life is around linux. just my two cents.
Repositories that can create a FrankenDebian if used with Debian Stable:
Debian testing release (currently bullseye)
Debian unstable release (also known as sid)
Ubuntu, Mint or other derivative repositories are not compatible with Debian!
Ubuntu PPAs
