Bullseye debian_version now 11.0

#1 Post by ticojohn »

Prior to today, the version shown in /etc/debian_version had been bullseye/sid. Now I see it has 11.0. Did somebody jump the gun or is this normal? I had assumed that the version wouldn't show as 11.0 until the actual release. Maybe I am just a confused egg.

Thanks for that feedback. I had looked at those links and unfortunately they aren't very enlightening to me. :? But as you say, it would appear that the release team is making good headway and the release may come earlier than expected. Go Debian!

Number concerning the current stable release: 594
Number concerning the next release: 184
Looks like Bullseye is more stable than Buster :?

After reading your post, I updated my bullseye server, which I've been playing around with in preparation for the Great Day & yes...the base-files package has been updated:

Code: Select all

Preparing to unpack .../base-files_11.1_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking base-files (11.1) over (11) ...
Setting up base-files (11.1) ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/debian_version ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/dpkg/origins/debian ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/issue ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/issue.net ...
So I took a look and yes...

Code: Select all

# cat /etc/issue
Debian GNU/Linux 11 \n \l
# cat /etc/issue.net
Debian GNU/Linux 11
:D
DebianStable

Code: Select all

$ vrms

No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.
