Rate limits over some debian web sites?

#1 Post by actionmystique »

Hi everyone,

I occasionally run a script which checks the release of a large number of debian packages available on https://packages.debian.org and downloads some sources when some specific conditions are met in order to build them in some specific environments.

I have noticed that sometimes the access is cut off for less than one hour.

Is this the consequence of some rate limits such as the ones enforced on github (https://docs.github.com/en/rest/overvie ... e-limiting) for instance or something else?

Any suggestion about something that could be done to be granted some higher rate?

I occasionally see download speeds vary quite a bit when I do upgrades. Even when going from one system and having fast downloads to another system, only a few minutes later, and having really slow speeds. I suspect that the issue is related to server bandwidth and demand at the time when speeds are really slow. Not a whole lot can be done about that unless the servers were to provide more bandwidth. Expensive!
