In addition to Ubuntu 22.10 switching to PipeWire as the default audio server replacement to PulseAudio, upstream Debian has done the same ahead of their Debian GNU/Linux 12 release next year.
I know this is just for Gnome, but I've read good things about the current state of Pipewire and I also think it might be less complex and error prone than Pulseaudio. Might have to fire up Bookworm and do some testing
