It's now a Black Screen of Death
I've been using Debian for 12 years and the only failure I have ever had was my own fault; messed up during an upgrade. But Windows is so bad they have changed their Blue Screen of Death to a Black Screen of Death. Back when Microsux products and PC's were becoming popular, my friend Al (a UNIX and now BSD guy) said "Microsoft is the most ubiquitous computer virus in the world". I think he nailed it.

Re: It's now a Black Screen of Death
One of My projects is a 24 qbit quantum system simulator - its main task is to find special sequences of quantum register states, and the computations take a lot of time to complete. When I run the simulation, I don't turn off my PC for weeks, and the longest run took about 3 months so far. The program uses ~12GB of RAM and all the 16 logical cores of my Ryzen7 are loaded at 100% all the time.
During the simulation I can use my PC as normal - I can browse the internet, watch movies, send emails and even play games - of course the simulation is slowing down because of my activity, but all the GUI apps are working smoothly.
Try that on Winblows - probably it'll take weeks to just launch the browser...
Instead of implementing a new color of the BSOD screen, Miscroshit should implement a working preemptive multitasking
...this is really funny - Microshit have stolen a very good VMS kernel code (proved in a court) - but they have failed to understand how to use it.
Anyway, this thread just advertises a new feature of Microshit Winblows (a new bg color of BSOD) - this has nothing to do with Debian or computing in general, so IMO this thread should be locked

Did you bother to read what the Offtopic thread is about? It is precisely for things that don't relate to Debian but you want to share it anyway. Maybe you should be locked!LE_746F6D617A7A69 wrote: Anyway, this thread just advertises a new feature of Microshit Winblows (a new bg color of BSOD) - this has nothing to do with Debian or computing in general, so IMO this thread should be locked

Definitely, we are using different language/dictionariesticojohn wrote:I doubt it. In any case, save yourLE_746F6D617A7A69 wrote:^That was irony, my friendfor when you press your clothes.irony
My dictionary says that "irony" means:
"the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect."
Well, my intention was the "humorous effect"

Re: It's now a Black Screen of Death
I know what irony means. I was trying to make a sort of play on words, substituting IRONY for IRONING. Get it. Press your clothes with an IRON, eg IRONING. DOH !LE_746F6D617A7A69 wrote: My dictionary says that "irony" means:

Hah! Such "games" are normal - playing with the words/wording can be interesting - but You should have already noticed that our game have just derailed this thread
Anyway, it proves that a single sentence can trigger some sort of a butterfly effect(*), what is interesting...
(*) ..or the avalanche effect, which is a pure technical term when used in conjunction with hashing functions or encryption algorithms

But the newer Win GUI will also be have more roundicity!!! (A technical term I just invented)
Hey, is Alanis Morissette joining in the debate as LE_746-etc or what?
… It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
And who would've thought, it figures
...Isn't it ironic?
Well, NO! Bad luck and stupidity don't qualify, nor is getting a fly in your Chardonnay anything more than bad luck.

Re: It's now a Black Screen of Death
The avalanche effect also applies to diode semiconductors. It's how Zener diodes work. The term has been around for years.LE_746F6D617A7A69 wrote: (*) ..or the avalanche effect, which is a pure technical term when used in conjunction with hashing functions or encryption algorithms

It also applies to large quantities of snow sliding down a mountain. The term has been around for years. Isn't that ironic? Or coincidental? Or none of those.ticojohn wrote:LE_746F6D617A7A69 wrote:The avalanche effect also applies to diode semiconductors. It's how Zener diodes work. The term has been around for years.

Re: It's now a Black Screen of Death
Mr stevepusser had to choke the fact that he have falsely accused me of creating non-existing technical term - quite unexpected and childish behaviour
Mr sunrat has problems with correct quoting and with distinguishing the avalanche from the avalanche effect - I understand that it's because you was in hurry
Mr ticojohn was clever enough to check the Wiki - but it's clear that He has no idea about how a semiconductor diode works - every semiconductor diode is a subject to avalanche effect, not just just the Zener diodes. Zener diodes are special because they are designed to have low reverse breakdown voltage, which was useful in some old designs (curently Zener diodes are very rarely used because of low accuracy and stability of the breakdown voltage level and because of relatively high power losses) .
A single sentence can derail the whole thread, and You have just proved that.
Do You know which sentence have caused this?

Re: It's now a Black Screen of Death
You have some serious issues. Probably low self esteem. I never said that ONLY Zener diodes rely on the avalanche effect, I only used them as an example. As to my knowledge, you are so off base. I worked as an electrical/electronic/fiberoptic engineer for almost 30 years, so I have a smidgin of knowledge about how semiconductors work. Before criticizing others you might want to take a look in a mirror.LE_746F6D617A7A69 wrote: Mr ticojohn was clever enough to check the Wiki - but it's clear that He has no idea about how a semiconductor diode works - every semiconductor diode is a subject to avalanche effect, not just just the Zener diodes. I'm sorry but I don't understand - so what is this "serious issue"? - a malformed name of a company and one of its product? - seriously?wizard10000 wrote:I for one have some fairly serious issues with comments like this and am going to start reporting them.
