Forgot to draw attention to the debian stickers I got for my server. I'm particularly fond of this one:

I see myself as a minimalist but I have to admit that this image doesn't look like it at all. At least it is very comfy. :D
The first thing I think of giving large amounts of time there is back and/or neck pain. I gave 10+ years slouching over a desk with terrible posture only to have it catch up on me this year in the form of bad neck and back pain.

I was able to fix the issues with much better posture and increased core strength - Posture is the 1st thing I think of at my desk now.

Sorry for the very late reply: The 5TB drive is one of my backup drives. I actually use it with Backintime and put encrypted backups from four different systems on it. But it isn't usually sitting on the sofa. I normally keep it nicely tucked away in a nearby cupboard.

It is indeed very nice. :)

I actually had much worse arrangements in the past with my old desktop pc where I didn't have leg room under the table and actually put my legs on the table sideways from the monitor always switching between putting them up on the left or on the right hand side. (This was so uncomfortable that it forced me to change my position very often. And I felt that it actually helped me to not get locked into an unhealthy position for longer periods.) And with the solution right now I also don't have the impression that I actually do have a unhealthy sitting position. A wooden board on my lap with loads of pillows for varied lumber support seems rather good to me.

I actually have had so bad back pain a few years back that I needed two injections in my spine and I had to take physiotherapy sessions. But I kept exercising daily for at least a year and now do Yoga and some bodyweight training twice a week with a trainer via Jitsi meet video calls (beside my usual bicycle riding for getting to places). I didn't have any back pain issues for years now.

This thread prompted me to get on with a project to move various computers from the dining room table, where they were not popular my wife.

So, from this:
Image

I set out to make a new desk to fit in the study. Result was this:
Image

50x25mm steel tube frame and the top is some pieces of board that I had hanging around in the garage. Painted them in a colour from Mazda (Soul Red) which is a lovely deep red candy. Frame is 2K black and I took the opportunity to build in cable management so the all run along the underneath, at the back. Makes it SO much neater.

Behind the chair and mounted under the desktop are 2 x ATX boxes. One has my server (FX8350, 16GB RAM and 22TB storage with various VMs for different tasks) and the other is my desktop (Ryzen 1600AF, 16GB RAM). A bit more work to do with the server to incorporate a VM mail server and

Server runs headless so the two monitors are for the desktop. Two notebooks (HP AMD A6 and Lenovo AMD A9, both with 8GB and SSDs) on the end are for when I go away.

So, to Hallvor, our thanks for starting this thread and getting me to finish this project.

As a relative beginner, and occasional gamer, I figured I didn't want to dual-boot, but dual-pc. So it is one for Linux and one for windows, at the moment. I'm starting to get comfortable with Linux use, so that will change in the not too distant future. One computer for regular linux use, and one for linux experiements. There are 4-5 other computers in the house, most of them run a base install of Debian with a custom piece-by-piece Xfce on top. My project now is to build Debian from base with zero configuration done by the DE, but build myself from Fluxbox. That's why the linux pc is running MX Linux Fluxbox, to try and dig into its configuration to see what I need.

The windows pc is connected to the home entertainment surround system and tv with a 10 meter hdmi, and runs it all. I started out with Manajaro and went on to Arch, and got it set up the way I wanted it. But with every other update, the audio setup got messed up, and I had to start over - while I was in the middle of learning other Linux stuff. That's why it gonna run Debian once I've created the ideal Fluxbox desktop.

And I had to make a new desk for it all in my workshop, which I'm quite proud of. Long and deep, and nice to look at!

Thanks! Those are from IKEA, remotely controlled, cheap, dimmable, and very easy to set up. 12v led, so you can do pretty much whatever you want. As an extra touch I have two under the desk, each just over the usb ports and on-off buttons on the tower computers. Then I don't have to fumble for the ports in winter evenings when all lights are dimmed and the fireplace is burning cozily!

I keep a little rolling desk type thing in the living room. I spend a fair bit of time here but I prefer to stream via steam to my living room tv. As I'm a house husband and my wife works at home in her office I have a fair amount of random small chunks of free time between cleaning this or that, cooking, laundry and such. Might as well enjoy the big screen when I can from the comfort of the couch.

You should be. It looks great and practical. But I am sure I would hate the lights on the board above the desk. They would distract me and give me the feeling of sitting in an interrogation room.
