Having a lot of fun with this cool retro set up. Devuan Chimaera with the Trinity desktop (TDE). Reminds me of my actual first Linux, Suse boxed set circa 1998. Screenshots at the link below:

Re: What does your non-Debian desktop look like?
Slackware 15 with wmii window manager
No KDE or XFCE installed
I have to say wmii is very nice to use. Especially for users that dislike dynamic window manager like me. No official maintenance any more that I could find but there is a git page so someone still cares for it. Very similar to notionwm just a bit cruder and with less bells and whistles... no built in screen locker, no scratch-pad. Sane key-binds.. Actually both require minimal configuration OOTB and very few key-binds or actions to get stuff done... Could be lighter for such a clean WM but wmii will be a keeper on my systems though not replace my default notionwm.

When I was young, I could not afford any commercial UNIX workstation running CDE. I used to dream about CDE while typing away on MS Word on Windows 3.11. But now I can use it!

Re: What does your non-Debian desktop look like?
I'm pretty sure I'd be in the next world before KDE or Gnome opened up a window on my hardware. Death by a thousand cuts is one thing but death slow opening windows worse. I've never ran slow systems but even by my usual standards this one would have your eyes out before you could blink
No display manager, no panel, no icons, no wallpaper, no menu, no notify-send, no composting, no Dbus, no pulseaudio, no sy....d, no grid, no floating, no fibonacci or what ever it's called. no dwm bloat or patches, no unnecessary key binds. If you've got three windows open on a workspace you don't really need the cycle backwards through them do you! I know the little "herbe" with the clue is just bling! Cute bling I'll give you... must be getting soft in my old age but I didn't study graphic design for nothing...
Simply purrs along.... Fastest WM I've ever used, but it does keep the mind focused
It has runner, fittstool and herbe and the wm. I think I've become a speed junkie

Re: What does your non-Debian desktop look like?
Very nice and minimal. But how about the browsers? You wrote that you don't use dbus, but as far as I know, most popular browsers require dbus. By the way, I didn't understand what window manager you are usingoswaldkelso wrote: ↑2023-02-03 01:51 It has runner, fittstool and herbe and the wm. I think I've become a speed junkie

Re: What does your non-Debian desktop look like?

Thanks for asking: IMO this thread should be not just about how pretty your desktop is but how beautiful it is under the skin so to speak. The beauty of how well it functions.
On the desktop I run either Slackware or Hyperbola. Slackware is BIG it wants to install everything. On my Slackware I have no KDE no XFCE and build my desktop from there, either via slackbuild.org or from source. On Hyperbola it's the other way around very freedom focused so very minimal ootb. That screenshot was Hyperbola.
My base wm is notion. Solid, easy ootb, fast. Boringly reliable and great for GTD. So for fun I play with lots of other WM's
The wm was this fork of catwm... I thought I left enough clues It has some bug fixes that arn't in the "Original pyknite Master version".
https://github.com/viyoriya/catwm
My version is stripped back but there some very sound mods in there. I did find a bug mentioned on the arch forum and applied that fix as well... I think lol. Anyway it's been solid here for the last month apart from PEBKAC
runner
http://www.boomerangsworld.de/cms/tools/runner.html
I much prefer it over things like dmenu and rofi. Simple fast gets out of your face (just as well as it's ugly as sin probably, why the ricers don't use it) the same dev made worker file manager it's in the repos
fittstool
https://github.com/jeanCarloMachado/fittstool
I mod mine a lot but worth installing for volume control alone
https://invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=-oYH9gsNqFc
herbe
demonless notifier
https://github.com/dudik/herbe
I used it in catwm to display a wee message when learning the keybinds via fittstool. Now I know them it's just for fun really. I was going to make a desktop number notifier but once you've been using it a while it's not really required.
