What's amazing is that these nations opposed to the US still used a closed-source "black box" OS made in the US, even in their most critically secret installations.

The Admiralty has a long tradition of closed source software. Of course, when I was doing work at A.R.E. Haslar, it was RT-11. God, I'm getting old...craigevil wrote:Gotta love the nuclear subs that run on Windows.

NASA uses Windows Xp I saw it on one of their displays during the SpaceX mission. I stated "really nasa...? Xp?". I hate Xp I would rather have Vista at least it has some sane modern features and isnt just a bloated blue ui on top of a creaking 1800s era kernel. Well not ONLY.

It'd be my great surprise if Microsoft and Debian were not polluted by US, PRC, Russia, or Israel. Are there any reason it's not the case?
Easy Shift / Ctrl / AltGr ... hack; save your pinkies, type without drudgery.

Well with MS etc. there is no way of knowing.teika wrote:It'd be my great surprise if Microsoft and Debian were not polluted by US, PRC, Russia, or Israel. Are there any reason it's not the case?
At least with Debian, and other open source software the code is readable by anyone, so any nefarious changes or insertions are readily detectable.
Not saying it is impossible or not already done (do YOU read all the source code then compile everything yourself?) but it would be MUCH easier in a CLOSED system.
