Prevent Konqueror browser from starting up

#1 Post by nikos »

Hello there. Every time I turn on my laptop, the Konqueror browser starts up and appears on my screen. How can I stop this? Thanks.

Which Desktop Environment/Windows Manager do you use?

You should look for something like Preference>Settings>Session Settings>Autostart ...then you will probably find that Konqueror is autostarting. Uncheck it.

@arochester, thanks for your reply. I have been using the KDE desktop environment. I found the solution myself. System Settings > Startup and Shutdown > Desktop Session > On Login - start with an empty session. Thanks anyway.

I think this is malfunction (where it should be reported exactly?). I am not aware that i have selected this Konqueror to run and i always close it before system is reboot, yet it appears after boot.
$ pstree

Code: Select all

        |-ksmserver-+-konqueror-+-QtWebEngineProc
        |           |           `-49*[{konqueror}]
/etc/xdg/autostart/konqy_preload.desktop contains:

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Exec=konqueror --preload
Type=Application
Name=Konqueror preloading during desktop environment startup
...
X-KDE-autostart-condition=konquerorrc:Reusing:PreloadOnStartup:false
X-KDE-StartupNotify=false
X-KDE-autostart-phase=2
OnlyShowIn=KDE;
At nikos mentioned path i have added "konqueror" to the field "Applications to be excluded from sessions:" to see if it will help.

UPDATE: i suggest following: Konqueror / Settings / Configure / Performance and untick both tickboxes. Confirm and "killall konqueror". This bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450624

For me it seems that they forgot to set the hidden variable in the desktop file; that means loading but not showing the app. In order to set it add this line to your desktop file /etc/xdg/autostart/konqy_preload.desktop:

Code: Select all

Hidden=true

For future reference: Open Konqueror --> Settings --> Performance --> Disable preload. (This may also cause Konqueror to start.)
