Proper way to get new Cinnamon on Buster

#1 Post by carpet »

I read that stable editions of Debian don't have bleeding edge software because of lengthy testing. I tried Buster in a live session and saw an old version of Cinnamon. However, I'm used to the version found in new Mint.

I thought there isn't a 100% safe way to get newer Cinnamon on Buster until Bullseye is released. (I would hope they won't ditch Cinnamon. I couldn't find it in the Bullseye release notes.) Is that true?

The proper way to get the new cinnamon is to run mint.
Debian has the old versions of everything.

Without backporting it yourself?

Backup your system, add the LMDE repository, upgrade Cinnamon, and see how much smoke comes out.
