HEVC h265 playback in Debian 11 bullseye (solved)

#1 Post by dais »

Hello!
Just installed Debian 11 with LXQT Kernel: 5.10.0-8-amd64 x86_64 on Lenovo 3000 N200 with Intel Core2 Duo T8300, NVIDIA G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300] driver: nouveau, 4GB RAM.
Got some video with h.265 HEVC codec, installed libde265 and other codecs. When I tried to play it, I got picture with distorted colours like in first attachment,

audio is good, no freezing or anything,
looked if h.265 is really installed,

So, could somebody help me with this issue?

Couple of ideas -
You may need firmware for your Nvidia card. Install firmware-misc-nonfree
I have good HEVC playback on my Bullseye with GTX970 and Nvidia driver. I just checked packages and have libde265-0 and libx265-192 installed.

Also could you please post terminal text output as text in CODE tags rather than photos.

Hello, sunrat, I've installed firmware-misc-nonfree and libx265-192 already. My Nvidia card has no proprietary driver, only nouveau. This is about Nvidia support of older cards for newer kernels. It is 14 years old for now.

Yes, sorry for terminal as picture.

Hi everyone! I found solution myself. In your video player, like vlc, you go Tools -> Preferences -> Video, there you find Output and change it from default to XVideo. In SMPlayer you go Options -> Preferences -> General, then Video: Output driver - from default to xv. And everything is good.
