Hello,
I had a notebook with a 1TB hard disk that the motherboard died, I asked for the technical person to remove the hard disk and give it to me with an external hard drive case in order to use the hard disk as an external HD. Now I have it and when I connect the HD to my machine it is not recognized. Previously I had Ubuntu installed on that HD without LUKS encryption, all I want is to open it and format it all. Please help, thanks in advance.
I already tried some commands I found online like "ls /dev/ | grep sd" in order to find it, but had no success.

Re: External hard disk not recognized
Sometimes when hard disks are about to fail, they can't be mounted anymore. Happened to me.

Re: External hard disk not recognized
Hi,
Did the HD case come with a dual USB Adapter Cable? My external HDs have two for sufficient power.
Have you tried:
How about trying gparted?

Have you tried:
Code: Select all
# fdisk -l
DebianStable
Code: Select all
$ vrms
No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.
Re: External hard disk not recognized
The case has this cable: https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/123ae1 ... 7243b.jpeg
I connected to a laptop, not sure if it has enough power for it, the light on the HD is on and it runs. I did tried "fdisk -l" but it does not outputs the HD.
Also on gparted I can't find it.

Re: External hard disk not recognized
Might have gone kaput along with the mobo.
I suppose you could carefully remove it from the case, also remove the laptop's HD & insert it there, if it fits, to see if it works.

Problem solved! It was the case for the harddrive, I went back to the store where I bought it hours ago, they tested on a pc, the hd was working fine without the case as Kedaha suggested, they changed the case and eureka!
Thank you all for the help.
