Why Lxqt packages are so outdated?

#1 Post by Udaba »

Hello everyone.
I tried LXqt and the version even on testing is years outdated!
Why the reason behind it?
I tried Lxqt unofficial for Debian and everything seems ok for now. (https://lxqt-project.org/blog/2022/05/0 ... an-ubuntu/)

Which are most development active UI ?
Thanks in advance

KDE and Gnome, by far.
XFCE rides the gnome wave and is reasonably maintained. Some think there is more to it than glitter.

All the DE are behind, and many WM too, several seem abandoned.

I think the reasons are various, but a conversation like that is really off topic for a support forum, IMNSHO.

maybe a better place is on mailing list debian-user?

Chill conversations and with logical arguments is always welcome i think.
Im asking for a low end laptop. I wanted to know which i could use .
KDE is lighter than Gnome right?(im using Gnome on my desktop, and seems ultra user friendly but heavy on CPU and RAM)
Also outdated software isnt a problem for me.Im aware Debian is kinda behind on that. That wont make change my favorite distro.
Just wanted to know more things about this project.

KDE is about the same as XFCE when it comes to RAM, but is a little more heavy on CPU. You can turn off animations, etc. to reduce CPU usage.

Always do that on all devices.
XFCE is the best in terms of low end performance?
When i swapped from Gnome on Lxqt on the laptop i could be able to play some games that i wasnt able to play because of the low RAM. (im not 100% sure about it)
I was pleased surprised with the support on the extensions on Gnome.

edit:is there any way to change from Lxqt to xfce without format?

Probably little lighter than KDE, yes.

Frankly, for an old computer, I'd use TDE. Almost as feature rich and configurable as KDE Plasma, and only uses a fraction of the resources. Much lighter than XFCE.

It looks a little old school out of the box (like XFCE), but you can change that.

KDE is similar in resource usage to Xfce, especially if you turn off desktop animations. I run it on a 2GHz Celeron Thinkpad Yoga (without disabling animations) and it runs nicely. Just install the minimal kde-plasma-desktop package to avoid extra applications and install them later as needed.

Install the xfce4 package and select it at the login screen. LXQt is small enough to not be worth uninstalling.
