[SOLVED] Debian equalizer

#1 Post by javahaxxor »

I get pretty dull sound in Linux even though I have fairly decent sound cards

Code: Select all

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)
01:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GF106 High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1)
I saw this link a while ago and I'm wondering if there's a package for Debian or if I need to change distro.
http://www.webupd8.org/2010/09/download ... -wide.html

My release info:

Code: Select all

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID:	Debian
Description:	Debian GNU/Linux 7.0 (wheezy)
Release:	7.0
Codename:	wheezy
Is it PulseAudio that has crappy sound quality, or is it the audio drivers ? What happened to that treble/bass setting there used to be a long time back for SB cards ?

AFAIK, being a "sound server", pulseaudio does nothing to the sound quality -- that comes from the driver and whatever device you use to output the audio. Pulseaudio is just a "piping" system, between the driver and the package being used for an audio application.

There's no sign of the pulseaudio-equalizer in any of the Debian repos.

Hi, I know this is old threat, but i wanted to update it a little bit since Debian Jessie (testing at the moment) is now frozen. I install it couple days ago and I do really enjoy it...
However, the method used for Debian Wheezy DOESN'T WORK with Jessie! So... don't try the above instructions if you use Debian Jessie. I was able to run the equalizer in few simple steps:

1. Install some dependencies:

Code: Select all

apt-get install swh-plugins ladspa-sdk
2. Get the pulseaudio-equalizer usign wget:

Code: Select all

wget ppa.launchpad.net/nilarimogard/webupd8/ubuntu/pool/main/p/pulseaudio-equalizer/pulseaudio-equalizer_2.7.0.2-3~webupd8~trusty1_all.deb
3. Now from Terminal go to the folder you downloaded the package and install it by using dpkg:

Code: Select all

dpkg -i pulseaudio-equalizer_2.7.0.2-3~webupd8~trusty1_all.deb
4. If you still miss some dependecies and you end up with some errors, try:

Code: Select all

apt-get -f install

Greetz,

when trying to wget 2.) i receive error 404

so i found here:pkgs.org/ubuntu-12.04/webupd8-i386/pulseaudio-equalizer_2.7.0.2-2~webupd8~oneiric3_all.deb.html

pulseaudio-equalizer_2.7.0.2-2~webupd8~oneiric3_all.deb

and dpkg it, it is installed, but is not launching

You know something about: TAP-plugins

below are the description from Synaptic:

Tom's Audio Processing LADSPA plugins

Tom Szilagyi has written a number of plugins for LADSPA
compatible hosts (e.g. Ardour, GNU Sound and GStreamer).

The plugins (Equalizer, Reverberator, Stereo Echo, Tremolo,
Scaling Limiter, AutoPanner and DeEsser) have been written
primarily for Ardour but should work well with any LADSPA
host.

P.S. MD.Angelov or someone else, if you have: pulseaudio-equalizer_2.7.0.2-3~webupd8~trusty1_all.deb, upload it on some site for downloading, or you can send it to me via skype

Thanks in advance!

Is this pulseaudio-equalizer from Canonical? I see ppa all over the place in that case why not use veromix. (this will bring over some kde deps.)

Veromix is not an equalizer...

Are there any error messages when trying to run the program in a terminal? It's probably python or perl based.

I'll see if I can add that to the MX 15 repo and get it working on a Jessie base.

Maybe you are referring to other functionalities of Veromix but I use it as equalizer.

Maybe an indication: Veromix works in MX linux 17 with Gtk3.
Try to install with gdeb and I had to install 2 extra pieces of software.
It works fine now.

Equalizer should not be used to fix audio, it's a mixing/mastering tool.

No, you could use it for that. EQ's with mics and pink noise generators are used to tune playback with your particular environment and equipment, primarily.
