Problems with KDE 4.10.5 in Debian testing

#1 Post by shmerl »

KDE 4.10(.5) just arrived in Debian testing, and while it seems to have better performance, there are quite a number of annoying bugs.

1. Screen locking doesn't work anymore, except in "Desktop Widgets" mode, and it's not switchable by Ctrl+Alt+L anymore.

2. Apper is not able to display any updates failing with such error:

Code: Select all

Unable to open database read-only: Database action 'prepare dependency insert statement' failed: table dependencies has no column named items_installed
3. Akonadi fails to start with MySQL error, even though I removed akonadi-backend-sqlite and installed akonadi-backend-mysql:

Code: Select all

Database error: Cannot open database.
Last driver error: "QMYSQL: Unable to connect"
Last database error: "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '<home>/.local/share/akonadi/socket-<host>/mysql.socket' (2)"
Unable to open database "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '<home>/.local/share/akonadi/socket-<host>/mysql.socket' (2) QMYSQL: Unable to connect"

Any clue how to fix these?

I fugured #1. It was caused by the oxygen-transparent widget style (see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=314227). Blacklisting kscreenlocker_greet in $HOME/.kde/share/config/oxygenrc (OpacityBlackList) solves it.

#1 is better now, but not completely fixed.

- Screensaver locker is messed up, it seems to combine the simple locker with screensaver and not properly.
- Desktop Widgets locker is tricky to use. When setting oxygen-transparent widgets style, one can't change background in the Desktop Widget style locker. Switching to oxygen widgets allows changing background, but then it hangs when the actual lock is triggered. It doesn't hang if you switch back to oxygen-transparent first. Rather weird.
- Ctrl+Alt+L shortcut still doesn't work.

To fix #3:

Akonadi Configuration > Akonadi Server Configuration > Use Internal MySQL server (check the box).
