Password cannot be written on Debian Buster

#1 Post by jtm52 »

I have a major problem in Debian Buster login. Password cannot be written on login screen. Nothing happens when you type.

Laptop is older Macbook Air.

In rescue mode there is no problem to login! So the keyboard works fine.

Hi,
You don't say what desktop environment you've installed. What graphical login program is it?
I'm not familiar with Macbook configuration but a solution for the time being would be to login in rescue mood and enable automatic login.
DebianStable

Code: Select all

$ vrms

No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.

When you say
Password cannot be written on login screen
what actually happens? What do you see?

Do you mean that the password box remains totally empty?

Do you mean that you only get black circles?

What display manager are you using?

Nothing happens! The mouse works and I can see cursor, but when I write the passwd, no normal points appear. The box stays empty, yes.

I use Mate and tested also XFCE. BUT in recovery mode everything works fine. And it also tells that the keyboard works ok.

Today I set up autologin and it works :)
