blank tty: NVIDIA vs. efifb

#1 Post by martinralbrecht »

Hi all,

I installed Debian/testing on a Macbook Pro 11,3. One thing that doesn't work is switching between X and the consoles.

In chronological order:
* the machine boots using UEFI (grub2-efi)
* efifb is loaded automatically
* I do get native resolution on the shell
* as soon as X starts and the proprietary NVDIA driver is loaded all TTY just go black (319.82 and 331.38)
* switching to the console just gives a black screen, switching to X restores X fine.

I suspect that efifb and nvidia's drivers don't like each other. Anybody else got this problem? Any suggestions for fixes?

Hey,

thanks. However, it seems that thread you linked to is outdated. According to

https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi ... 12-driver/

and

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-disp ... river.html

319.12 should have added efifb support.

EDIT: Seems it's just not supported by the driver: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi ... e-support/ That is, Apple's displays are conntected via Display Port and Dispay Port is not on the list of supported outputs.
