I have the Soundcore Life Q20 bluetooth headphones, and they do not seem able to connect via bluetooth. I tried connecting with bluetoothctl, where they would successfully connect but then immediately disconnect, and any further attempts to connect fail. I have tried restarting bluetooth and doing this several times and get the same result each time.
The headphones are the Anker Soundcore Q20. When I installed debian, I used the unofficial images which have nonfree firmware included, so I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem with that. Also dmesg | grep firmware does not show any missing firmware, even after I try to connect to the headphones. Is there anything else I could try to see which firmware is missing? Also, I tried connecting to a bluetooth mouse, which worked just fine, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with bluetooth either.
I have a set of these bonded to my flip phone and thought of getting another set. I did try them audio only on a Buster equipped with working bt awhile back and I thought it worked. I was wondering/hoping to test/use it for some voice activation. They're very good on the phone.
A convergence happened; this thread got me thinking on it, I checked and found they are discounted, pipewire is now the edge of my radar...
I did notice they do not support the mic while on the cable like basic earbuds. I suspect the mic is dependant on the noise cancel function. I have had conversations in very noisy environments where the other party can't hear any of it, or just some muffled weirdness, otherwise sounds good.
So I have another pair coming for $38! That's cheap..and they are fine, ok, good enough, so I will report back sometime between delivery and the end of time...
Don't you hate it when answer is 'it works for me'! Helpful...
After I remembered I did try it before I figured out the listed Q20's are the other ones. So I corrected my idiocy and removed the set, started over, and the new ones connected fine using "Audio Sink" mode.
I did not get "Handsfree" working with the above error. I don't think I have anything to connect to in Handsfree mode.
This is all on a Buster XFCE setup with the bt working since stretch and unchanged. I have no idea how much variation there is different DE's or bt cli, except btscanner found them also. This box has tv tuners I used as a sound source and the Q20's can turn on, steal from the default sink the audio and then hand it back on power off....give it a minute ...and regrab on the next power on without involvement. The headphones volume also works as does the ANC. Nice, just like the phone except the mode.
Any report back concerning range, Bullseye, pipewire, VA-gogo-drone control, etc is not likely anytime soon...
