Brother MFC-L3770CDW

#1 Post by sdibaja »

First, any advice is appreciated.

I was a bit impulsive and ordered a Brother MFC-L3770CDW and should arrive next Monday. Just in time for my Bullseye migration.
Beside the features, form factor, and reviews, etc...
my decision to buy this was based on my personal experiences with Brother Linux support and compatibility.
After reviewing their Support/Downloads page I pulled the trigger.

If there are any problems with this particular machine I would love to know in advance.
Thanks, Peter

I have a MFC-J870DW

Printing works with cups, no Brother software needed
Scan, never got it to work but didn't try all that hard. I need to be at the platter to change documents anyway.

I don't print very much, primarily I scan and archive incoming paper... not to mention I am continually working on scanning more than 20 years of business records.
For that "50-page single-pass ADF" is highly desirable, if it works without resorting to maintaining a Windows system.

I do want crystal clear Prints, and better color. I have high hopes.

I have a elder MFC-J6710DW (inkjet) that is fine, but it is not Ideal.
The Brother support is great, and it does scan very well... I will keep it available until the bugs get worked out.

I have an old Brother MFC-9500

Works fine with cups gutenprint. iirc the is a Linux printer compatibility site. https://openprinting.github.io/

I've found even if your printer is not listed if there's a near number you'll be fine

The MFC-L3770CDW arrived on schedule (via Amazon).
Yesterday morning I had a friend carry it to my third floor office. It's too heavy for me, way over 20 kilos.
After unpacking etc. I installed the printing software. [on Debian Buster Mate]

https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloa ... w_us_eu_as

just follow the website instructions

*However: there are some missing steps*
---

after the Brother installer finishes:

full shutdown, restart

Open web browser and go to http://localhost:631/admin/

Enter your login and password, click the button "Add printer" and follow instructions.

after finishing with Cups full shutdown, restart

return to http://localhost:631/admin/ for additional edits as needed
---------------

Prints are crystal clear, colors are bright.
It is fast and responsive.
Scanning is simple and easy using gscan2pdf.

the "50-page single-pass ADF" is awesome. My wife handed me a small stack, I pushed Print, moments later the copies were in the try, properly sorted.

Highly recommended
