Nouveau y Nvidia

#1 Post by Lightday »

Hello. This is the first time you have posted on this forum, as you recently installed Debian 11 stable. I leave you my system information.
quique@debian-11:~$ neofetch

,g$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$P. ----------------

`Y$$b. CPU: AMD FX-8350 (8) @ 4.000GHz
`"Y$b._ GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 210
`""" Memory: 1354MiB / 3001MiB

To specify a little more the graphics card I have is:
Nividia GT218 (GeForce 210) 1 GB DDR3 64 bits
The issue is that by default Debian 11 installs the Nouveau graphics driver, and as many of you know, it does not have 3D acceleration and therefore does not work well. Better to use the proprietary Nvidia driver.
As well explained in https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers, in Debian 9 and 10, if you can install Nvidia. Now well, it also says that the Nvidia Driver Version 340.108 (Legacy GPUs), (which is the one I need), The use of the 340 series driver is strongly discouraged. It is no longer included in stable versions of Debian has serious security vulnerabilities that cannot be fixed and may not be updated for new kernels in a timely manner. Using the integrated Nouveau controller is highly recommended if security is a priority.
The question is, since I have Debian 11 stable installed, if I follow the steps of Debian 9 or 10 to install Nvidia, would the graphics card work well, and in the future it would not give me problems or on the contrary, should I give up and stay with the Nouveau driver? And most of all, is there anyone who has passed this on to him and managed to get it to work with the nvidia driver?
Greetings and thank you.

nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver is not available for Debian 11 Bullseye. Your choices are stick with Nouveau for Bullseye or go back to Buster to use the nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver . Or get a new graphics card.

The topic "Nvidia legacy 340 XX" is also open and there it has succeeded for Ubuntu, but what remains is to adapt it for Debian, but of course that cannot be and of course it is not worth trying. I will continue with Nouveau and when the PC goes bad I will buy the last card on the market. All the best. Thank you

That's not true.
In fact, the Nouveau + MESA supports more GL extensions than Nvidia drivers - the problem is, that nouveau driver is not automatically switching the pstates (performance modes) - to avoid problems with broken/unstable GFX BIOSes/hardware.

How to switch the pstates using nouveau driver:

He instalado los dos controladores de pantalla propietarios de NVIDIA como dice "https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers", y la tarjeta no funciona. ¿Hay alguna solución para que funcione?
Con la versión anterior del kernel, si que funcionaba, si bien es cierto el archivo de fuentes estaba mezclado con otras versiones de Debian.
Un saludo.
Gracias.

Hello. Sorry.
Hello. I have the Nvidia GeForce GT 730 4GB DDR3 inserted.
I have installed the two proprietary NVIDIA display drivers as it says "https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers", and the card does not work. Is there any solution to make it work?.
With the previous version of the kernel, it did work, although it is true the source file was mixed with other versions of Debian.
All the best.
Thanks.

nvidia-detect is in non-free repo. You need to have that repo enabled in your sources. https://wiki.debian.org/SourcesList#Exa ... urces.list

If I install the Version 460.91.03 driver, the "nvidia-detect" package does not exist in the terminal, and the "nvidia-detect" package does not exist in Synaptic.
If I install the Version 390.144 driver, in configuration it tells me that the graphics card is UNKNOWN.

Those firmware errors are irrelevant for Nvidia.
You have screwed something up here, you showed the correct sources but were unable to install nvidia-detect which is available from non-free:
https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/nvidia-detect
I don't understand how you installed nvidia 390.144 driver if you can't install nvidia-detect as they are from the same repository.
You will also need firmware-misc-nonfree for nvidia and firmware-realtek to make those other errors vanish.

Also please use CODE tags for terminal text output to make it easier to read.

Hello. I have installed the firmare-realtek, from, https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware, to correct various errors on boot.
Another bug on startup; Failed to start raise network interfaces, fixed from, https://unix.stackexchange.com/question ... 291#448291, with the commands, sudo systemctl status networking.service, to see the error, and sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces.d/*, to open said text file and add # to all lines of the file.
What I am missing is, having this graphic that works at 64 and 32 bits, like the memory and the microprocessor, but with the 32-bit motherboard, is it possible, with the multi-architecture, to be able to install the appropriate driver so that the system can use it? If so, how is that done?
I have observed that on boot, the first line says: "Debian 11 clean: 305000/270000 files; 2650000/1090000 bloks (approximately)
Thanks.
