ATI X1650 driver did not work properly with gdm3

#1 Post by whynot »

Hi everybody

I installed Debian 11 in my old Ubuntu system that has same issue before. At that time I need to chose lightdm instead of gdm3 as a login service.Gdm3 (I tried also under ssdm but same issue ) gives distorted display like image underneath
Is it possible to fix that under gdm3?

#2 Post by Zeitungsjunge »

This is a problem with GDM3 on certain hardware.

I've had this problem (like many others). The only solution for me and many others was to uninstall gdm3 and install lightdm instead (you can still start your gnome session out of the lighdm login screen).

GDM3 is broken, I stopped hoping for a fix.

Yes but why does it work with Debian live and during the installation, everything works just fine but after the restart, it stops working and we need to change gdm3 to lightdm. Do you have the same video card?
