File manager suggestions?

Hi. I am thinking of installing Fluxbox on my Debian machine, and I have heard that window managers has less memory footprint than GNOME/ KDE/ Xfce.

AFAIK, *box are just window managers, and doesn't come with file manager (something like explorer/ finder in Windows/Mac), I wonder if you could suggest me some nice file managers to me? I have heard of ROX, but I never tried it before.

P.S. BTW, how is e17? It looks nice.

In my opinion it's where Linux sucks. There's no alternative to windows ExplorerXP. It's nice under wine though, but it's another story.

What's so grand about exploreXP? It's a memory hogging software the same as all the rest of MS software. Linux has a number of lite weight file managers, but the the standard file managers for KDE and Gnome work every bit as good as explorer, and even have much of the same functions with a simaler look and feel.

emelfm is a light file manager that works well with fluxbox.
thunar will work well under fluxbox although it was designed with xfce in mind.

Ah, I didn't mean I want to run Explorer in Linux, I just tried to explain for what I want.

It's great that it is multi tabs/windows one (all in one) that allows to work with files opened in multiple directories at the same time, when Linux offers only lightweight two pane norton commander-like crap.

IMO emelfm and xfe are the lightweight choices for running under X. Both are powerful, dual pane file managers, and don't depend on a lot of additional libraries. Not much in the way of eye-candy, but a small trade-off given how lean and functional they are.

Also don't forget good ol' Midnight Commander which runs from a terminal.

I very much like Xfe, it's light & fast with a lot of what Explorer has and it is not linked to any desktop environment/Window manager.

ps - e17 is doing very fine and it's not to hard to get installed. I've a wee set of HowTo's over to debe17, I even have a set of deb's that one can install e17 on etch. Here is a shot of e17 on etch & Xfe.

If you already have Gnome installed I think that Nautilus will work fine in Fluxbox too, not so lightweight though. Be sure to run it with the flag --no-desktop or it will take over the entire desktop.

No, I don't know how. I am such a n00b. I hope you, guys, will teach me. Where is that button with Internet Explorer? When I click on the little square in the lower left corner, it should pop up at the top but doesn't.

xfe is awesome and under active development, I suggest running the latest version if possible

You can also 'slim' down both konqueror and nautilus to be a bit lighter.

pcmanfm is good too and has the ability to draw the desktop and set the background for the desktop
