Safe to install all of Openoffice 3 on stable Lenny [SOLVED]

#1 Post by gurfle »

I saw in a Post (by TonyT » 2009-06-01 01:49) in the forum group that you can just get the 3.0 Debian install package from the OOo site and then . . .

Unpack the download in /usr/src, then as root, cd to the DEBS dir and do:
dpkg -i *.*

Then cd to desktop-integration and do:
dpkg -i *.*

That seems reasonable, but then other places I see it's at your own risk to add packages not in the stable packages unles they are backports, however there appears to only be a backport of the Openoffice "base" module.

Any thoughts or advice from general experience on this question?

Thanks, Nick

Thanks mike102282 . . . I did not realize that all packages were there on my first to the the backport site. Your post got me to look again a little closer!

But . . . When I bring in the list of packages into synaptic, I get this error:

W: GPG error: http://www.backports.org lenny-backports Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY EA8E8B2116BA136C

and it looks like a whole bunch don't come into synaptic, because I still see most of the main openoffice packages listed under the old 2,4,1 version, rather than 3.0.1 that is supposed to be out there.

What should I do now???

Well, thanks to rivenathos, I am now aware that it is necessary in synaptic to check "Prefer versions from: lenny-backports" under Settings -> Preferences -> Distribution, to make everything 3.0.1.

I probably don't need to wory about "public key is not available" error.

Thanks for all the tips !!!

Install the "debian-backports-keyring" package to get rid of that warning...
