In a few different folders when using Nautilus in Gnome Shell, I get a blue ribbon across the top trying to "help out." In my Downloads directory, it pops up a bar linking to file sharing preferences. The one that annoys me the most though, is when I open a USB thumb drive and it says, "Contains Music" and links me to Rhythmbox. They feel like wasted space to me.
I disabled the file sharing one for Downloads by completely disabling bluetooth on my machine... not an ideal way to do it, but the only way I could find that worked. For the "Contains Music" bar however, I can't find a thing.
First of all, what are these things called? I've Googled the living daylights out of this, but can't narrow down the results enough to find anything.
Second, how they heck do I get rid of them?
Third, is there any way to at least change which applications they link to?
Thanks!
Can I get rid of Nautilus helper bars?
Re: Can I get rid of Nautilus helper bars?
I've continued doing some research into this. Apparently, the bars simply cannot be removed.
HOWEVER, I've discovered that the real problem is that the "Contains Music" bar appears for every usb thumb drive I mount into the computer, even empty ones.
I'm running Debian Unstable. Anyone else see this problem or can recreate it? I may have to file a bug report.

Throw the baby (Nautilus) out with the bath and use Thunar for GUI file manager purposes.
Nobody would ever ask questions If everyone possessed encyclopedic knowledge of the man pages.

It's tempting to just use XFCE for everything.acewiza wrote:Throw the baby (Nautilus) out with the bath and use Thunar for GUI file manager purposes.
How can I tell Gnome Shell to use Thunar as the default file manager?
