haa... fullon net cd install

#1 Post by sickpig »

being a gui junkie i was daunted by the command line (migrated from windows around a month ago)
but took the plunge today
always wanted to try it... install everything from cli
so installed net deb cd
then booted into it
just cli
couple of months ago i would had heart seizure upon booting into just cli
but now armed with a month of understanding of how deb works it was easy enough
installed xorg openbox synaptic xfce-panel lxappearance etc
been disabling processes for low RAM startup since then

pretty pleased

Noticed you're using openbox and were asking about autostart'ing stuff in another thread. Don't know if you've gotten around to it yet but are config files for it. Copy the contents of /etc/xdg/openbox to /home/youruser/.config/openbox create the openbox directory there if needed. Would just go ahead and copy the whole directory to there. Four files in it, one of them for autostart, plus menu.xml, where you can customize what's in your menu and rc.xml for whatever custom keybinds you want. The syntax to use in any of them is pretty self explanatory once you open them in a text editor. Restart/reconfigure openbox after changing for changes to take effect. Openbox is awesome, good choice.

Of course might muck them up, while playing around, until you get it down. Can always keep backups ie: rc.xml.bak etc or worst case copy working configs from xdg again.

Thanks Deb-fan, nice of you to offer guidance. But at the cost of sounding immodest I would like to say that now I have become Openbox ninja :D (patting my own back)
