Civilization Style Strategy Game
Civilization Style Strategy Game
C-evo for Windows has been around for a while.
http://www.c-evo.org/
Its subsequently been ported to Linux.
http://www.c-evo.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=174
I have worked on the Debian packaging, fixed a few bugs, tweaked the graphics for the large tile size, and added some documentation and extra maps. Packages for Buster & Bullseye can be downloaded from the OBS here.
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show ... rBBB/c-evo
The game has a good on-line manual, with a separate menu link. The package includes a tutorial game and a 'HowTo' guide. These might be helpful for first time players.
Some useful info here too.

Re: Civilization Style Strategy Game
@OP: looks interesting, thanks for sharing. Lintian says you have a couple of unused overrides:
But it will continue to be supported for Debian buster & bullseye: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=947713
Code: Select all
$ for deb in c-evo* ; do echo $deb ; lintian $deb ; done
c-evo-data_285+dfsg.6-3_all.deb
N: 0 tags overridden; 1 unused override
c-evo-gtk2_285+dfsg.6-3_amd64.deb
N: 2 tags overridden (2 info)
c-evo-stdai_285+dfsg.6-3_amd64.deb
N: 1 tag overridden (1 error); 1 unused override
c-evo_285+dfsg.6-3_amd64.deb

It's already EOL upstream: https://blog.gtk.org/2020/12/16/gtk-4-0/CwF wrote:isn't gtk2 on the way out?

C-evo uses loads of text data files, which are not documentation, and recent Lintians get very noisy!package-contains-documentation-outside-usr-share-doc

Re: Civilization Style Strategy Game
New version available now, see
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show ... rBBB/c-evo
Main visible change is that the tile size can be zoomed with the middle mouse wheel.
Upstream Website is https://app.zdechov.net/c-evo
(It was down when I started this topic)
Realising that folks often don't bother to read readme files, here it is
====================================================
First time players will find the documentation useful,
see /usr/share/doc/c-evo-data
or /usr/share/doc/c-evo
Also, there is a very good internal manual. Select from the start screen
(small icon on the top left), or press F1 in game.
The game is automatically saved in the current book at the end of every turn.
Each turn's save is available by adjusting the game date on the start menu.
(The buttons for this are on the right, near the bottom)
In case of a crash, reload the autosave book at the bottom of the
"earlier book" list in the start menu, prefixed by a ~
When creating a new randon map with the internal map generator,
the map will start as all Ocean. Hit Ctrl-r to generate the terrain.
If the game appears to be stuck/frozen, it may be a hidden modal window.
Try the [esc] or F11 keys.
Revision 400 changes map file extensions from 'cevo map' to cevomap.
Existing maps will no longer load, and the game will not install the example maps
if the folder already exists. Backup any custom maps you wish to preserve,
and change the extension(s) to cevomap. To reinstall the example maps,
delete the maps folder and restart the game. Copy any saved and renamed maps back in.
The Map folder is ~/.config/c-evo/Maps
If reporting any bugs, please attached the game book file,
and explain clearly how to reproduce the problem.
Saved book files are located in ~/.config/c-evo/Saved

Note, game data is now saved in ~/.config/C-evo/ instead of ~/.config/c-evo/
I suggest renaming ~/.config/c-evo to ~/.config/C-evo before upgrading.

Nice!
I'm pretty sure an overpicky lintian can be quieted with a lintian.overrides file: https://lintian.debian.org/manual/index ... ride-files

Now has its own website;

Source can be downloaded from there, or prebuilt binaries from the OBS

Main changes since my last post here are the addition of Spanish & Portuguese translations.

Re: Civilization Style Strategy Game
Its now an official package
https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/c-evo-dh
but didn't make Bookworm on account of the freeze.
However, the 1.8-1 packages are useable in Bookworm.
Also, I've released an external Map Generator for the game
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cevomapgen/
https://software.opensuse.org//download ... cevomapgen
It makes more varied terrain than the in game generator.
