[SOLVED] Unable to preload EDID during boot.!!

#1 Post by vtcsanosuke »

Hi every1!

I'm having hard times struggling to get higher resolutions on my VGA monitor (DVI-I-1).

Here are some details of my current situation:
$ sudo uname -a
Linux mxi7 5.4.0-3-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.4.13-1~mx19+1 (2020-01-19) x86_64 GNU/Linux
$ sudo cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.4.0-3-amd64 root=UUID=4585016b-6561-4414-81b4-1659445df032 ro quiet splash drm.edid_firmware=DVI-I-1:1705S1.edid video=DVI-I-1:e
$ sudo cat /sys/module/drm/parameters/edid_firmware
DVI-I-1:1705S1.edid
$ sudo xrandr --verbose
https://termbin.com/yruz
$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | nc termbin.com 9999
https://termbin.com/oavd

As u have red, I dowloaded the edid for my screen and followed this guide to include it during bootload.
https://wiki.debian.org/RepairEDID

But I'm still stuck with no new resolutions. It seems my EDID is not being taken into account...

Any help would be REALLY appreciated.

THX in advance,

Sanosuke

1) Are you using MX Linux and not Debian Linux (bearing in mind that this is Debian User Forum)? MX Forum is here: https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewforum.php?f=104

2)What kind of cable are you using to connect to the monitor? One digital cable can give higher resolution that another digital cable. https://www.displayninja.com/dvi-i-vs-dvi-d/

Previously I've seeked in MX Forums, but this is too specific and seems related to a kernel or NVIDIA drivers issue so I thought this forum was more appropiate.

My GPU is:
$ lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G94 [GeForce 9600 GT] (rev a1)
Kernel driver in use: nvidia
Kernel modules: nvidia
It has 2 DVI-I (Dual Link(connectors). I have attached my Belinea 1705 S1 VGA monitor to the 2nd connector through a DVI-I to VGA adapter.

AFAIN the kernel option doesn't work with closed source NVIDIA driver.

Here You have a link with instructions how to use the CustomEDID option in xorg.conf:

You are my HERO!! MASS THXS!!!! :D :D :D

That did the trick. For any1 reading I used my EDID in binary format (downloaded from github) and worked directly (not the ASCII version), cause I could not adquire it from monitor.

Again I've really appreciated your help!! :D :D :D

Details of the workaround results:
