building lxqt 1.1 debian packages
building lxqt 1.1 debian packages
i noticed that the lxqt packages in debian repo (both unstable and testing) are very old. So, i followed this wiki https://github.com/lxqt/lxqt/wiki/Building-from-source and built lxqt 1.1 from source.
I'm running lxqt 1.1 on with debian testing as of now. (attaching a screenshot)
I only found instructions to compile lxqt 1.1 from source. Now, i'd like to make debian packages. How can i convert these binaries to debian packages? Could someone please provide some instructions....
i did some search. https://wiki.debian.org/LXQt and https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/LXQtPackagingTeam do not have any useful info and seem unmaintained.
If i succeed in making debian packages, may be i can contribute them back.

Well, you had a good idea anyway I cannot help you to build and upload OFFICIAL Debian packages but if you want to create quickly packages i can suggest checkinstall.
We should install them with dpkg, it is better than nothing

You have obviously not read anything on those pages, since it describes the exact procedure on how to push new releases. Also, where did you get the confirmation that lxqt is unmaintained?

Well... the last sentence of the first page is: "There will be live-iso's soon." Thee page was last modified on 2019-02-05 18:44:44
The second page was last modified on 2016-08-22 14:12:48
That's ok, time is relative, but the supposition they are not maintained is not all that strange

Re: building lxqt 1.1 debian packages
Maybe we should talk to the lxqt maintainers first and then decide if it's maintained or not.
And the packages are 2 versions behind. That's not unusual for Debian.
But maybe it's a good opportunity to become one of the new lxqt maintainers? That way the new packages would come in quicker into Sid.

Re: building lxqt 1.1 debian packages
debian repo has lxqt version 0.16
After that, lxqt released version 0.17, 1.0 and now 1.1
these are not in debian repo.
From the wiki, https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/LXQtPackagingTeam, the "contact us" link points to a non-existing page https://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-lxqt/
So, it doesn't seem to be a way to contact the developers.
If there is someone who knows the process, i can work with them to help build the packages. But going through the instructions on this wiki, i'm not sure if i understand all of them and confident that i can do it by myself.

Re: building lxqt 1.1 debian packages
I found this: https://github.com/severusseptimius/lxqt-1.1-debian
I will test them in next days, they are binaries deb packages of Lxqt 1.1.
Regards
EDIT: tested, install manually each single packages because you will need to remove some broken dependencies and install newer ones. it works

Re: building lxqt 1.1 debian packages
thanks for the link. Now, i can have lxqt1.1 on my debian system without having to compile it myself.
It looks like they have left out the lxqt third party apps (https://github.com/lxqt/lxqt/wiki/Third-party-apps). I don't see them in this git repo.

Re: building lxqt 1.1 debian packages
Debian Testing still has 0.16.0, I do not know what is in Sid.
Would be nice to be able to update to 1.1.0 via Synaptic, a lot easier than going through the motions of cloning a git repo.

Re: building lxqt 1.1 debian packages
They are in Debian Experimental, from where I backported them to the Bullseye-based MX 21 test repository. They work well, though some number of backports are necessary. I first did pcmanfm-qt 1.1.0 for an MX user, which works well on non-lxqt desktops, but will break
Bullseye's lxqt. So I did the rest of the backports to fix that issue.
https://packages.debian.org/experimental/liblxqt1-dev
Experimental did not need to update the actual "lxqt" metapackage, so the Bullseye version works fine to pull in the newer versions once the updated packages are available to apt.
