RAM 2 x 16Gb sees as 2 X 8Gb - Wrong SKUS

#1 Post by madsurfer »

Hi,

I have a weird issue with my Debian setup. I have a Intel Nuc machine as a server:
Manufacturer: Intel(R) Client Systems
Product Name: NUC8i7BEH
Version: J72992-304
Serial Number: G6BE850000J2
UUID: 313ca431-1b65-11d5-a161-XXXXXXXXX
Wake-up Type: Power Switch
SKU Number: BOXNUC8i7BEH
Family: Intel NUC

I had2 X 8GB Corsair Ram (CMSO8GX4M1A2133C15) and ordered 2 X 16Gb (CMSX32GX4M2A2400C16). I picked the same brand to stay safe.

The issue is after installation and reboot, my system stills shows me 2 X 8GB, with the exact same previous "CMSO8GX4M1A2133C15" part number. The package stated 2 X 16GB, but I have 2 X 8GB. I have installed the latest bios version, and checked that this nuc version actually support 2 x 16GB ram.

Question did I missed something after installation or the content of the package was basically not correct?

Thanks

David

You could run memtest86+ from a live disk and see what it says about the memory.

Thanks for tips.

I have solved my case differently. I did an "updated-pciids" in case of...even though I don't see the link. Then I guessed that using the same type of RAM and vendor, the BIOS might not get that actually the ram was new. So I installed only 1 RAM stick, and after boot, my system started to show the correct part number and available RAM. I installed the second one and now, the 2 X 16GB are recognized !!!!

SMBIOS 3.2.1 present.
