Have you followed stevepusser's advice in post #5?

Hmmm--firmware in backports is still 15 months out of date. It should be safe to install the Bookworm firmware packages (and only the firmware packages--no wholesale upgrades)
This could be critical with a newer kernel. Go to these links and hit the Download > All link to get the deb packages and install them manually.

Here is a link (marked [Solved] - always good) where the same issue with the same soundcard was fixed by removing previous .conf settings.

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=271763

https://pci-ids.ucw.cz/read/PC/8086/43c8

Which gives me hope that #20 might work.

Could you try the dsp_driver parameter again and give us dmesg output when the soundcard does not show up?
I can't seem to replicate it.
dmesg output with the above might tell us something.
dmesg | grep 'firmware\|dsp\|audio\|snd\|sof'

Re: No sound

#24 Post by FreewheelinFrank »

We might not be on the right track with the driver parameters. It seems this sound card is dual codec because it handles both analogue and digital sound. There are quite a few reports of analogue sound failing because of HDMI/dual codec issues. Do any of these apply?

Have you installed proprietary Nvidia graphics drivers? These apparently take contol of HDMI output and won't release the card for analogue output.

Have you used the HDMI output for anything? Using HDMI output may leave the card stuck in HDMI output, so no analogue output.

Dual codec configuration is handled by alsa-ucm-conf. Do you still have the Bullseye version? Later versions break dual codec handling resulting in no analogue sound.

What is the output of

Code: Select all

$ apt list alsa-ucm-conf
?

https://lore.kernel.org/all/20211227091 ... erex.cz/t/

https://pov.es/linux/ubuntu-ubuntu-20-4 ... on-laptop/

PS, also make sure you have Analog Stereo Duplex in Pulse Audio Volume Control Configuration tab and not HDMI output.
